Ok ok so I know I have been mostly mostly inactive in adding to this website, buttttt I did add a picture on the about page so that's neat right??
Anyway I have been, and continue to be, putting off writing any sort of second part to the nas blog entry since I've done a lot and have no idea where to start. But I just today figured out the solution to my ram problem on the server and i'm excited so I'm writing about it now.
So basically when I built the server, one of my ram sticks I was reusing from my previous nas was making Unraid refuse to start. At the time I just accepted it, figuring I could buy another set later if 8GB ended up not being enough. Hah. Well I'm at the point where I want more ram in there, and I am NOT buying ram anytime soon if I can help it.
But I was thinking, if the "not working" ram stick was perfectly fine in the old build, would it work in another computer? I mean, the nas was booting fine with it, Unraid was the one that refused to load with it, so I thought that maybe if I replaced it with the ram in my dad's pc, my puter might be happy about it and his might be happy with the ram I was using. So today I spent a couple hours turning off everything, unplugging, and disassembling to swap, and...
It worked!
So now I have double the ram that can run faster without causing issues! And my dad won't
notice anything different either. How exciting!! :D
